Halloween 2011

I’m usually not a big fan of Halloween – I just haven’t really gotten in to it over the years, however, a last minute run for face paint for Dom prompted a purchase of my costume this year, and I had some fun with it. There was a Jason mask and machete for $9.99 so I picked it up. It was pretty funny hiding in the darkness and jumping out to scare the absolute shit out of kids, however, there were some kids that were absolutely not phased at all – one kid even laughed! Little bastards…I’ll have something better planned out for next year!!

We also had some fun at Bulbstorm earlier in the day – props to Michael, Dustin, and Casey for their interesting costumes!

Jersey Shore Workout Game

So tonight the big premier of Jersey Shore Season 4 is tonight, and I’m stoked! This show is like watching 1 train wreck after another…I really can’t get enough. I’ve devised a little “jersey shore workout game” that everyone can play while watching the show…and here’s how you do it…

You’re going to need the following: workout clothes, dumbbells (optional), and doorway pull up bar (optional). Actually, all of these things are optional, all you really need is to just get off your ass and get to working out.

Ok, so here is how the game goes (I literally just came up with this whole thing a minute ago):

Game Play (Prior to the show)

Come up with about 3-5 different workouts that you can do that will hit different muscle groups. Some easy choices are pushups, pullups, dips, curls, lunges, and squats. Every player must agree on the selection of exercises, and the order in which they will be executed.

Game Play (During the show)

When watching the show, there will be plenty of commercial breaks. When the show goes to commercial break, select 2 exercises from the list of exercises and perform those exercise to muscle failure. Make sure you keep track of the amount of reps you do, as that will be how winning the game is determined.


After the show is over, add up how many reps you did for each of the pre-determined exercises. Points are based on how many players are playing the game with you during the episode. Let’s say that you and 3 of your friends are watching an episode together. The total amount of points that can be achieved per exercise is 4 points. If you came in first place (by having the most reps), you would get 4 points, if you came in second place, you’d get 3 points, and so on. Determine points for each person for each exercise, then add up all the points for each person. The person with the most points wins.


What do you win? Well…in Jersey Shore fashion, each player that didn’t end up in first place (the winner doesn’t have to buy any drinks), has to buy “x” rounds of drinks, where “x” is the place that you came in. If you came in 2nd place, you’d have to take everyone out and buy 2 rounds of drinks, if you came in 4th, you’d have to buy 4 rounds of drinks, and so on.

And that’s about it. You’ll get your swell on doing the exercises, and then you get to go out and get drunk. MVP would be proud!!!

100 Day Challenge

I recently decided to pull my head out of my ass and to get serious about my goals. In 2010, I lost 50lbs, but am I completely happy with the results…no. I mean, I am happy that I lost 50 lbs, and I do feel/look better, but I’ve still got a little bit more to go.

My goal is to be at 12% or less body fat in 100 days. The 100 day clock started yesterday, and my end day is October 24, 2011. By then, if I stick with my diet and my workout routines provided by Ty @ Team Cane Fitness, and Darin, and my buddy Jason, I should be shredded by then.

Right now I’ve made it a point to plan and make 2 days worth of meals ahead of time. I have 6 meals a day starting at 8am going all the way up to 9pm. The 2 hardest things that I can see in the foreseeable future are keeping my meals mixed up enough where I’m not getting tired of them, and making sure I have myself on a schedule on days that have or don’t have Dom – I’m getting severely OCD about my calendar right now.

So here goes nothing – I weighed in at 231 lbs on Saturday morning, and Ty took measurements – but I’m waiting on him to get those over to me. I’ll post those up when he sends them over. Also, I plan to use the “100 Day Challenge” category on here to post daily about my meals that I’m eating (with pictures), and to post up my workouts. This is another challenge from me – because if you know me, I’m not too consistent with my blog.

So anyway…time to rock out with my **** out…Paul Walker will be my bitch after this is all over with.

Codeigniter & PHP ActiveRecord

I recently started using PHP ActiveRecord with a CodeIgniter project at work, and I’m absolutely in love with it, especially since it now makes CodeIgniter work just like Ruby on Rails when dealing with models.

I had previously started writing my own ORM style model that plugged in to CodeIgniter, but after finding PHP ActiveRecord and then finding a Spark wrapper for PHP ActiveRecord to integrate in to CodeIgniter, I have since abandoned the “base_model” project, and I’ll show you how to integrate these 2 in this post.

Review: 2012 Lamborghini Aventador

There has to be some mad scientist (read: “crazy smart person”) out there that has calculated the radar cross section of the new Lamborghini Aventador, because I think we’ve all been wondering what has replaced the F-117 Nighthawk.

Apparently Lamborghini just let the cat out of the bag.
